About Jerome R. Milton Award
Sponsored by the Greater New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and named for its long-time senior pastor Rev. Jerome R. Milton, the REV. JEROME R. MILTON AWARD FOR NON-VIOLENT SOCIAL CHANGE is awarded annually. Selection of honoree is administered through Tyler Together Race Relations Forum (TTRRF).
It is the signature award of Tyler’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration and seeks to recognize an individual and/or organization that exemplifies values of non-violent action for social change, as articulated by Dr. King, through demonstrated leadership, including contributions of personal time, actions, talents and service, to raise awareness and work toward solutions to inequality, to promote justice, celebrate diversity, and/or prompt non-violent action that contributes to building a better community.
