Tyler Together Race Relations Forum was honored to host a table at the 2nd Annual Texas Peace Summit on Sunday afternoon, February 18, 2018 at the Ornelas Activity Center on the campus of UT Tyler.
We shared our History, Mission and Highlights of Past Accomplishments. We also used this opportunity to share our Current and Upcoming Initiatives.

About TEXAS PEACE SUMMIT
The TEXAS PEACE SUMMIT was an afternoon symposium designed to inspire, educate, and provoke. Over 100 people attended this year’s Summit sponsored by Art of Peace-Tyler. The program featured 5 presenters talking about a variety of topics. They were:
Senator Bill Bradley, former US Senator, former Presidential Candidate, and former NBA player.
TOPIC: LISTENING AS PEACEMAKING
Senator Bradley shared via Skype and discussed his XM radio show “American Voices” where he collects the stories of Americans from all over the country – and he talked about the importance of listening to each other’s stories.
Dr. Juan Mejia, Provost & VP for Academic and Student Affairs Tyler Junior College
TOPIC: EDUCATION WITH PURPOSE: THROUGH A PERSONAL JOURNEY
Dr. Mejia shared his personal journey of being transformed through education.
Chris Groskopf, co-founder of the Tyler Loop
TOPIC: DATA, FACTS, AND THE FUTURE OF JOURNALISM.
Chris talked about the relevance of using data in modern journalism
Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, director of the climate Science Center at Texas Tech University.
TOPIC: THE LATEST ON CLIMATE SCIENCE: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
Dr. Hayhoe is one of the leading spokespeople in the field of climate science, and as an evangelical Christian, she often works with religious communities to help them better appreciate this pressing matter.
Dr. Flora Farago, Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Stephen F. Austin State University.
TOPIC: HOW WE INSTILL BIAS IN CHILDREN AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT
Dr. Farago discussed the psychology behind how we instill bias in children.
