Purpose: Solidarity March & Rally
On Thursday, December 18, Tyler United Leader, Ambra Phillips, organized a Solidarity March & Rally in Downtown Tyler TX to show support for residents of Ferguson, Mo. following the grand jury decision not to indict Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown; and the Staten Island, NY grand jury’s decision not to indict Daniel Pantaleo in the chokehold death of Eric Garner,
After a March along North Broadway, approximately 200 people attended a peaceful program on Tyler’s Downtown Square.
The program was moderated by Ambra Phillips and included other speakers who spoke of Community Unity & Peaceful Dialog. They also recognized that much is yet to be accomplished in our community.
In a reference to a famous quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Solidarity Movement Leader, Ambra Phillips says “Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere,” Phillips planned the March & Rally to help bring unity, social activism, and open dialogue.
Ms. Phillips also stated that “We are here and we want to be heard and we are together. We aren’t separated. We are a unified community,”
